Lied is poetry: words set to music, verses transformed into song. But, above all, it is shared experience. It is a text that takes on a whole new meaning when imbued with sound. It is the intersection between the universe of the poet and the imaginative world of the composer: an encounter that is relived in every performance, each time a piano and a voice come together again.
To perform such pieces inevitably entails a true shared experience: not only a shared experience for the performers, but also for the audience. As indeed this is warm, intÃmate and personal music which also seeks the warmth and complicity of the audience. And this is the very climate that pervades the present recording, which those of us who know Marta GarcÃa and Jordi Humet are delighted to present to the world. Seldom has a couple in art and life inspired such unanimous admiration on both a personal and professional level. And it is indeed impossible to separate these two aspects when listening to the present disc, their first recording together.
Such a recording constitutes an open door to that prÃvate dimension from which such jewels emerge. But it is not the works that open themselves up to the world: it is we who, for a moment, have the priviledge of entering such an intimate space and approaching this interior reality from which they emerge, the very reality which day after day, performance after performance, provides them with life and sense.
