More info

This is one of the most significant operas by Josep Soler, premiered in 1974 as an oratory at the Palau de la Música Catalana and then at the Gran Teatre del Liceu (1986). Based on the tragedy of Seneca, with the addition of Sophocles, his third opera (out of sixteen!) deals with the subtlety of life around murder, mutilation and suicide, as defined in pre-destiny, the omnipotent and inevitable will of God. It is based on a theme that is rarely addressed in opera, using a personal language so in line with the richness of contemporary opera.
