Matilde Salvador composed operas, ballets, oratories, choral music and chamber music, but it was, above all, her songs that earned her recognition in the history of Spanish music. The poetic intensity, the importance she gave to the texts, the painstaking selection of poets, the clear dramatization of the texts, the carefully crafted melodic line, her knowledge of the instruments for which she wrote (in this case for voice and piano) make her songs one of the musical summits of our national music heritage, a veritable dramatic music.
