One of the most important monuments of Catalan culture in the Middle Ages on the grounds of its historic level and the quality of its music is the Llibre vermell o Liber rubeus (Red Book), the cartulary of the Montserrat Monastery written in the mid-13th century. It contains 10 anonymous songs, hymns of praise dedicated to the Virgin Mary, and morality-based works in Catalan, Occitan and Latin. Many versions have been made of the songs. The version presented by Antoni Rossell combines both medieval tradition and a modern rendering ranging from Jazz to contemporary music, performed by Jaume Vilaseca on the piano
